On their 77-acre diversified farm in Mount Gilead, Ohio, Ben and Lisa Sippel have been raising produce for more than 14 years.
Ben Sippel recognized his passion for farming shortly after graduating from college where he earned degrees in Environmental Studies and Geography. Then after completing an internship on a farm with a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program, he decided he wanted to create one of his own. After 15 years operating their own CSA, Ben and Lisa closed it down and became founding members of Great River Organics.
Ben and Lisa bought the Sippel Family Farm in 2004. They grow 10 acres of produce and raise sheep on pasture, proud to be home to Ohio's first Sheep Dairy where they produce Kokoborrego cheese.
Organic farming truly is a family affair, as their young children Charlie and Miriam are very active on the farm.
